Broken Hill IPART Water Review

The Chamber has been actively participating in the IPART Review into water and sewerage services in Broken Hill and region and was able to present arguments on behalf of our members at the Public Forum recently held in Broken Hill. Executive Officer Anne Bransdon reiterated that the NSW Government subsidy for water was critical to supporting Essential Energy to provide quality water and services to the Far West. The Chamber also confirmed that it supports Essential Water in the quest to maintain and upgrade infrastructure, as all businesses must do, but that the capital works program needs to be looked at closely so as not to increase the cost of water to the point where it may put some of their customers out of business. In addition to submissions received to date and the public hearing, stakeholders will have further opportunity to make submissions to IPART when its draft determination is released in March 2014. A final decision will be made in June 2014. Further details about the review and the public hearing are available on IPART’s website
